Nymphaea nouchali (commonly called Ambal or water lily) is an aquatic flowering plant that grows in ponds, lakes, and slow-moving water bodies. It thrives in warm climates with ambient temperatures of about 22–35 °C and requires full sunlight for good flowering. In tropical regions like Kerala, the warm and humid climate with abundant water bodies provides ideal conditions for its growth. The plant grows best in still freshwater with nutrient-rich muddy soil at the bottom and produces attractive floating leaves and colorful flowers.
