Ash gourd (kumbalam) (Benincasa hispida) is a climbing vegetable crop widely grown in tropical regions for its large, wax-coated fruits used in cooking and traditional medicine. It grows best in warm climates with optimal temperatures of about 24–30 °C and requires good sunlight and moderate rainfall. The plant prefers well-drained sandy loam or loamy soil rich in organic matter. The warm and humid tropical climate of Kerala, where temperatures usually range between 25–32 °C, is very suitable for its cultivation. 🌱
