Hibiscus, commonly grown varieties belonging to the genus Hibiscus, is a popular ornamental flowering shrub known for its large, vibrant blooms in red, pink, yellow, orange, and white shades. It thrives exceptionally well in Kerala’s warm and humid climate, growing best in temperatures between 20°C to 35°C and tolerating higher heat with regular watering. Hibiscus prefers full sunlight (at least 5–6 hours daily) for abundant flowering and grows well in fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Regular watering is essential, especially during dry periods, but waterlogging should be avoided to prevent root issues. In Kerala conditions, hibiscus flowers almost throughout the year. Periodic pruning and proper fertilization encourage bushier growth and continuous blooms, making it ideal for hedges, home gardens, pots, and ornamental landscaping.
