Kalappadi mango (Mangifera indica var. Kalappadi) is a traditional South Indian mango variety valued for its sweet, juicy pulp and pleasant aroma. It thrives in warm tropical climates like Kerala, with ideal temperatures between 24°C and 32°C. The tree prefers moderate to high humidity, well-drained loamy soil, and annual rainfall of 750–2000 mm, along with a short dry period before flowering for better fruit set. It requires full sunlight for good flowering and fruiting and is sensitive to frost and prolonged waterlogging, making Kerala’s tropical monsoon conditions suitable for its cultivation.
