It grows well in warm, humid regions like Kerala, thriving in temperatures between 25°C and 32°C and being sensitive to cold below 15°C. The plant prefers a humid tropical climate with annual rainfall of 1500–2500 mm, partial shade to filtered sunlight, and well-drained, slightly acidic soils rich in organic matter. Consistent moisture and high humidity are essential for healthy growth and regular fruiting.
