Nelli, also known as Indian gooseberry (amla), is a hardy fruit tree valued for its small green fruits rich in vitamin C and medicinal properties. It grows well in tropical regions like Kerala, thriving in temperatures between 20°C and 35°C and tolerating heat up to 40°C as well as mild cool conditions. The tree prefers a warm climate with annual rainfall of 600–2000 mm and can withstand short dry periods.
