Bush Pepper – Panniyoor, a compact and high-yielding selection of Piper nigrum, is specially suited for homesteads, pots, and terrace gardens in Kerala. Developed from the popular Panniyoor line, this bush type grows in a shrubby form without the need for climbing support, making it easy to manage in limited spaces. It thrives well in Kerala’s warm and humid climate, growing best in temperatures between 20°C to 35°C with good humidity and partial shade. Bush Pepper – Panniyoor performs best in fertile, well-drained loamy soil rich in organic matter. Regular watering during dry periods is essential, but waterlogging should be avoided to prevent root diseases. With proper fertilization, mulching, and light pruning, the plant produces bold, high-quality pepper spikes, making it ideal for home cultivation and small-scale spice production in Kerala conditions.
